Theme: “I see the Illumination.” (2024) for tape and vibraphone, is the sequel of “You are beautiful “ (2023) for Piano, Flute and Percussion. The compositional series was inspired by the romance novel “My Beautiful Man” (2021), written by Japanese litterateur Yuu Nagira. In contrast to the previous composition, “I see the Illumination.” narrates the love story from the perspective of another protagonist, the “King”, which broadly demonstrates sound effects. Considering the usage of chords is in supplemental function, the musical structure focuses on the variation within harmony and tone, to imply feeling the light shine from his secret admirer, as the representing protagonist in the earlier work “You are beautiful “. From being neither friendly nor aloof, the interaction between the two is developing to mutually influencing, courting, appreciating, and further embellishing each of their lives.

Theme: This is a piece composed for a trio with flute, piano and percussion, inspired a novel Utsukushii Kare written by Japanese novelist Nagira Yuu. The protagonists’ relationship is both stunning and sincere while also being incredibly intense. In our lives, we may also have the chance to fall madly in love with someone or something, and frequently, this kind of crazed persistence is what propels us forward. Introduction to the plot of the novel: This novel mainly describes the ordinary love story of the mutual affection between the two protagonists. The protagonist has a stutter from birth, cannot speak clearly, and experiences bullying from his peers, which in turn makes his character extreme and gloomy. And the classmate he admires is the ‘King’ of the class, who is also the only one who shows the protagonist kindness, which leads the protagonist taking a shine to the ‘King’. However, the protagonist’s affection for the ‘King’ is extraordinary. He had a very fanatical desire to love the “King” in a way that was worthy of a god because he believed that the ‘King’ was as great as a god, as beautiful as the stars in the sky, and a goddess of beauty bathed in a river of gold.

Theme: This piece is composed for solo soprano, contralto, percussion instruments and synthesizers, using the same title text and quoting the lyrics of the original soundtrack ‘Si Deus Me Relinquit’ from a Japanese anime called ‘The Black Butler 黒執事’. The lyrics are narrating the fear of God abandoning humans, and imagining the future of humans without god.
The lyrics inspire the composer a lot in creating the mood of the song: incomprehensible divinity.

Angel Tsang – Counting The Stars
November 2024
Theme: Under the advice of Lena, this piece is the modified version of one of the old pieces Angel composed around 8 years ago, with the imagination of two kids resting under the starry sky. The woodwind and string instruments often work in pair with the one and the same family or in a similar range. The metallic sound of percussion adds another layer of timbre in the music, imitating the twinkling star. The rapidly descending notes forms an motif that depicts the meteor.
